Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that following progress towards economic stability, the government’s focus is now on improving health, education, skills development and social protection.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Vice President for Human Development Mamta Murthi, according to the finance ministry.

Aurangzeb said Pakistan’s young population is a major strength, and equipping it with skills in line with modern requirements is an urgent need. He stressed that investment in human capital is essential for sustainable economic growth, enhancing competitiveness and creating better employment opportunities.

The finance minister appreciated the World Bank’s continued support for Pakistan’s development and reform priorities. He noted that developing the capabilities of the youth and preparing them for the evolving global market is a key component of the government’s economic transformation agenda.

Murthi said progress in areas such as child malnutrition, stunting, access to quality education and improved healthcare services is critical for long-term development. She noted that the World Bank would continue its support for effective service delivery and achieving measurable outcomes in Pakistan.

The meeting discussed maternal and child health, nutrition, immunisation, early education, population-related challenges, strengthening primary healthcare systems and the provision of essential medical services.

Both sides also explored the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in advancing health, education and workforce development. The World Bank delegation shared global experiences in technical and vocational training, skills development and employment-linked programmes.

Discussions highlighted the importance of stronger industry linkages and greater private sector participation in training initiatives. Murthi invited Pakistan to participate in the Universal Health Coverage global forum to be held in Japan later this year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in health, education, social protection, workforce development and technology-driven service delivery.
