Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave guidance to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday ahead of the latter’s upcoming visit to Iran as Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to achieve peace between Tehran and Washington continue.

The interior minister met the premier in Lahore to discuss his upcoming trip and other matters.

“Consultations also took place between the prime minister and the interior minister regarding the interior minister’s upcoming visit to Tehran. The prime minister provided guidance related to the visit,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The interior minister also briefed the prime minister on his important engagements held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation conference in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

They further reviewed in detail the prevailing security environment in the country and measures being taken to maintain peace and stability, along with the overall law and order situation.

Naqvi briefed the prime minister on the steps being implemented to ensure law and order and safeguard citizens across the country.

PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of close coordination among all relevant institutions and called for a unified strategy to further strengthen law and order and enhance national security.

The prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, protecting citizens and ensuring effective cooperation among all security and law enforcement agencies.

Pakistani sources earlier told Anadolu that Naqvi was set to meet top Iranian officials to discuss “some new proposals” to reach a temporary deal between Tehran and Washington to break the ongoing deadlock.

He would also discuss reviving a second round of talks between the parties to end the conflict, they added.

Iran’s semi-official news agency Mehr also reported that Naqvi would pay a visit to the country to hold talks amid Islamabad’s ongoing mediation efforts.

The visit comes as Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, met on Friday in Bishkek.

Naqvi has been directly involved in negotiations with Tehran as Pakistan is mediating a possible agreement between the US and Iran to permanently end the war, which began on February 28.
