Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on ‌Saturday that the United States and Iran have agreed to a framework for a peace deal that would end the months-long conflict in the Middle East, with a final text of ‌the deal reached.

Pakistan is now preparing for an electronic signing expected within the next 24 hours, followed by technical-level talks next week, he added in a post on X.

“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week.”

He also thanked the US and Iran for their ongoing commitment during the negotiations. He extended sincere appreciation to their brothers in the region for their support.

“We are confident that this historic peace deal will form a strong foundation for lasting peace,” he added.

US President Donald Trump shared the prime minister’s post on his own Truth Social platform.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has lauded Pakistan’s mediation efforts in facilitating dialogue between the US and Iran, saying the process aimed to ensure continued engagement between the two sides and pave the way for a positive outcome in the days ahead. He said the deal would be presented as the “Islamabad Pact”.

Speaking to a private television channel, he said that Pakistan had brought both the US and Iran to the dialogue table so that communication would not be interrupted and the process could continue, eventually reaching a positive conclusion in the coming days.

On this occasion, the minister strongly condemned Israel’s actions aimed at sabotaging the dialogue process and described its role as “destructive.”

“At various times, Israel has played a highly negative and destructive role. In Lebanon, thousands of children and innocent civilians were killed, while in Gaza, genocide continues even today. Their objective was to ensure that the conflict continued and that the United States remained engaged in the region in one way or another,” he said.

He also praised the US administration, particularly President Trump, for its role during the dialogue process, saying that Trump had set an example of how a bold global leader should lead. He also commended the Iranian administration, saying it had created a new history.

“Iran has set a new example through the way it defended itself with courage, bravery and deep patriotism,” he said, adding that both countries had demonstrated wisdom and good judgment.

On Friday night, PM Shehbaz had made a post on X regarding an “incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal”.

He went on to state that “a final, agreed-upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalise the next steps,” adding that “Peace has never been this close as it is now.”

The US and Iran signalled on Friday that an agreement to end their war was close, with a senior US administration official saying both sides had agreed on a text and that Washington expects to sign an initial deal in the coming days.

The war began with joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. Iran then fired on US military targets in the Gulf and Hezbollah in Lebanon fought back against Israel.

The war has killed thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and sent global energy prices sharply higher.
